EXCLUSIVE: Sydney FC's two goal hero John Aloisi has played down his heroics after Saturday night's 3-2 win in Townsville over North Queensland.
Speaking after landing at Sydney airport on Sunday afternoon, Aloisi said it was a team effort that got the sky blues off to the perfect start in the tropical north in round one of the A-League.
And despite equalling his goal scoring figure from last season in just one game, the Socceroo was keeping his feet on the ground.
"It feels good that we won and it was important for us that we won. It was a difficult game but three points were important," he told au.fourfourtwo.com.
Aloisi looked sharp all night against an overworked Fury backline. The striker made the home side pay with a clinical finish early in the game after a flowing move set up by the energetic Kofi Danning.
This was followed by a coolly taken penalty later in the match by Aloisi to seal a deserved win for the sky blues.
The Socceroo striker says he's feeling in peak form for the coming season. And with those two goals, he's equalled his tally from last season in one game.
"I was happy with the way our pre-season has gone. We trained well and I trained right through the pre-season," he said.
"I'm feeling fit and the boys are creating chances so I try to get on the end of things. If it keeps on going that way, I'm sure we'll win a lot of games and hopefully I'll score a lot of goals."
However, with Fury almost nicking a point after dragging the 2-0 back to 2-2 Aloisi knows the season one champions are far from the finished article particularly with their possession game.
"I still think we've got a lot of improvement [to come]," he added. "I thought the first half hour we played really well and we caught them a few times on the counter. But they picked up and we didn't keep enough of the ball in the second half."
The Reds from Adelaide provide the next test for Sydney FC this Sunday. After United also won their opening A-League game on Friday night, a bumper crowd of around 20,000 is expected for the sky blues' first home game of the season at the SFS.
And with Aloisi hailing from Adelaide - as well as the expected return of former Sydney FC hero Mark Rudan in a United shirt - this looms as a blockbuster.
Aloisi added: "I try be up for every game but it's good we're playing at home in front our fans and they saw we won this week."
