John Aloisi says he would sit down with the FFA if contacted regarding the vacant Socceroos coaching position.
Aloisi has coached both the Melbourne Heart and Brisbane Roar in the A-League and has been mentioned as a possible candidate, albeit a long shot, to replace former mentor Ange Postecoglou who resigned on Wednesday after four years in the job.
“If I get a call from the national team, of course you’re going to take it and talk to them,” Aloisi told the Daily Football Show.
“But at the moment that’s not even a reality because I haven’t got a call."
Aloisi said he was opposed to bringing in a foreign coach to head the national side.
“I can talk until the cows come home about what I believe they should do in terms of sticking with an Aussie coach," he said.
“Whether they believe that or whether they go that way, I still think we’ve got good coaches in this country.”
But his sole focus is on the Roar’s Saturday night fixture against Sydney FC as his side attempts to garner back-to-back wins.
“Whether you’re going to get a local coach or a foreign coach … your name will be thrown in there,” Aloisi said.
“My sole focus is on us tomorrow night beating Sydney FC and keeping this run going that we’ve got going, four games unbeaten.”
