Speaking after training on Friday, Sydney coach Kosmina gave this appraisal of John Aloisi's current fitness situation.

"Johnny hasn't been on the track for two weeks so to be honest I think you'll be lucky to see him again this season.

"He's been out (for two weeks) so he's got at least a week of hard work (to do) and I don't think he's up to it yet."

Ross Aloisi, however, says that's an incorrect assessment.

He said: "I spoke to John [Aloisi] yesterday and obviously he'd heard what Kossie had said.

"As far as what's John's told me, he missed five days of training, not two weeks," Ross, the former Adelaide United skipper, tells au.fourfourtwo.com.

"He's been running with [Sydney FC assistant coach] Tony Popovic for the past week, and doing a helluva lot of running.

"And he told me he'd be fit for the Queensland game [on January 17].

"Kossie's come out and said something completely different.

"He [Kosmina] said he hasn't trained for two weeks, which isn't true. He's trained for the past week and just missed five days of training."

Aloisi described his brother as 'a fighter' who will not back away from the challenge of re-establishing in John Kosmina's struggling side.

He said: "The type of person John is, he's been in similar situations before, and John I can tell you for a fact will not walk away from his contract because it's too hard.

"He's just not that type of person. We've been brought up differently, when things get tough, you know what? That's life, you've got to deal with it.

"You've got to work hard to get back on track. And that's what John's doing. I'd be very surprised if he's not there next year.

"He's adamant he wants to stay and do better next year. And at the end of the day, he's achieved a helluva lot in Europe and with the Socceroos."

The fuss over Aloisi has the heat off Kosmina who is under pressure to perform on and off the park in his first full season at Moore Park.

"The coaches should be judged as well, not just the players," adds Aloisi.

Sydney FC take on Wellington Phoenix later today with the Kiwis desperate for three points to maintain their charge for the four.

Aloisi will miss that game but in Sunday's Sun Herald has vowed to be back for Sydney. He said: "There has been a lot of speculation that I am going to walk away but it is not true.

"I am going to be right for the rest of this season and also be on top form for next season."
