David Moyes' side have reportedly launched a bid of £40million for the 26-year-old Spain international and Alves implored Fabregas to stay with the La Liga champions.

"It's up to (Fabregas) what he does, but I think he can bring a lot to this side," Alves told Catalan radio station RAC1.

"The team needs players of Cesc's quality to win trophies.

"He wasn't at his best at the end of last season but we were all the same.

"If he decides to stay here, I'll be delighted to continue having him as a team-mate and the squad respects him a lot."

Despite the speculation, the hierarchy at Barcelona insist Fabregas will not be leaving the club.

Alves also commented on the departure of young star Thiago Alcantara, indicating that the Brazilian may have rushed his move to German giants Bayern Munich, but refused to compare the situation to Fabregas'.

"I think that Thiago hurried a little, but I like that attitude because the worst thing you can do is remain comfortable,'' he said.

"Cesc's is a different case. He has already left here once. He left the club, made a name for himself and then returned."
