Barca are one of the clubs being linked with a possible summer swoop for the highly-rated Alves, who last year revealed his ambition to join one of European football big guns.

That desire still burns bright in the Brazil international, and while he admits Barca certainly come in that category, Alves is adamant no offers have been put to him from anyone from the Nou Camp.

"I am a winner and the challenge of Barca attracts me a lot. I feel very proud that they want me. Any player would love to play there," Alves told El Mundo Deportivo.

"For me it is an honour that Barcelona are interested in me, but I am secondary in the negotiations. It is a great option and I hope that if I have to go it will be to a club as great as the Azulgrana.

"But it does not depend on me, but on what the presidents agree.

"Barca, or whichever club wants to sign me, has to reach an agreement with Sevilla and from there they can come to an agreement with me.

"The only impediment that there is is that they cannot reach an agreement with Sevilla because the other points are small details which in the end can be worked out."

When asked if anybody from Barca had made contact with him, Alves replied: "No, neither do I think they should do. Now they have to speak to (Seville president Jose Maria) Del Nido and with my representative."

A host of other clubs are likely to be interested in the 24-year-old, who has a contract with Sevilla until 2012, and although Alves admits he would like to stay in Spain, he has not ruled out moving to a different country.

"You never know. If I can stay in Spain, then so much the better. And, if not, I will have to go where they want to take me," he said.

"I have my preferences and it is a decision which also concerns my family. I want to go where we will be most happy and somewhere to enjoy football.

"I want to go to a place where I can have a good life, like the one I have here."

He added: "It is clear that I like the beach, I am Brazilian. Barcelona is a great option that I have and making a smart decision must be done with a cool head, never in the heat of the moment."

Alves is not the only Brazilian playing in Spain whose future is up in the air, with Barca playmaker Ronaldinho also believed to be set for pastures new this summer.

Although the chances of Alves and Ronaldinho both being at the Nou Camp next season are looking slim, the Sevilla wing-back admits he would relish the chance to play alongside the two-time former World Player of the Year.

"For me I would love to play with him because he is a spectacular player," said Alves.

"I am a fan of his, he has done so much for football and it would be an honour to play alongside him, but I don't know what will happen in the future. He knows what is best for him.

Alves also backed Ronaldinho to bounce back from what has been a difficult season.

"Any player can recover if they have confidence, the respect and the affection of all," Alves said of his countryman.

"He has not forgotten how to play football overnight. He will know if he has problems or not, but whoever says they don't like Ronaldinho playing football is lying. He is a spectacular footballer, not only to watch but also as a team-mate."
