The Addicks will be playing in the Coca-Cola Championship next season after they failed to beat Tottenham at The Valley on Monday night.

The future of several Charlton players, most notably England duo Darren Bent and full-back Luke Young, have immediately become the subject of much speculation.

Ambrose, 23, knows first hand what a bitter pill relegation can be to swallow as he also went down with Ipswich in 2002.

The winger, however, is confident Alan Pardew's men will have what it takes to mount a sustained assault on promotion next season.

"The manager has said we can all hold our heads up high and be proud of the fight we put up to try to survive," said Ambrose.

"Maybe it was a bit too little too late, and we are all devastated to be relegated, everyone is feeling gutted.

"But we have got to look to the future now, try and keep our squad together and bounce straight back up."

Ambrose reflected: "Who stays is something for the club to decide. Maybe we should try to keep the loan signings that we have got and try to keep Darren Bent.

"Hopefully Darren will stay because he has been a fantastic player for this club and we need him to help get us back up.

"But if that is not the case, we have to try and do it without them.

"I think we have got a good squad as it is, but if we can get a few more players in we will be confident that we can bounce back."
