Mustafa Amini’s AGF are a step closer to safety in Denmark after defeating Awer Mabil’s Esbjerg 3-1 in their relegation play-off second leg overnight.
Amini and Mabil both played full games in the match, which sealed a 3-1 aggregate win for AGF after a goalless first leg draw.
The result means Amini’s AGF will play Viborg in the second round of the relegation play-offs, with the victor assured of safety.
The fate of Mabil’s Esbjerg looks far more bleak, scheduled to face Horsens in their second round relegation play-offs, with the loser relegated.
The winner of Esbjerg-Horsens will play the runner-up in the Danish First Division in the third round.
Mabil is on loan at Esbjerg from Midtjylland where he is in the second season of a five-year contract.
