Ange Postecoglou says he will endorse Socceroos assistants Ante Milicic and Josep Gombau for the vacant Wanderers coaching spot after Tony Popovic’s shock departure two days ago.
Club assistant Hayden Foxe has been appointed as caretaker and is vying for the position.
Milicic is considered the front runner with former Adelaide United mentor Gombau also a contender.
But with the Wanderers’ season opener just five days away, either of the men would have to leave the Socceroos in the midst of the all-important World Cup qualifying play-offs.
“If that’s what they wanted to do they’d certainly have my blessing,” Postecoglou said from Socceroos camp in Malacca on Tuesday.
“That’s why they’re here. I want them to be the best they can be.

“They’re no different to the players and I would never stand in the way of any of the players wanting to improve or better themselves.
“If an opportunity came along and it disrupted things here we’d cope with that. “It’s not just my decision - they’re employed by the organisation, they’re not employed by me.
“But I wouldn’t have any issues, I’d be excited for them.”
Ange was particularly glowing in his appraisal of Milicic.
“I think Ante will be an outstanding coach,” he said.
“I would appoint him at an A-league club, I think he’s done a fantastic apprenticeship.
“Wherever he’s gone, whether that was when City first started or at Wanderers or here, he’s always made an impact and is continually looking to improve and challenge himself. He would be a fantastic appointment.”
