The 27-year-old, who is hoping to re-establish his career in Australia, was invited to train with the Victory squad yesterday.

It is understood Konstantinidis was on the verge of signing with a Greek Super League team for 2013 until the outfit was relegated due to financial irregularities.

More recently, the towering Melbourne-born winger has been hitting the pitch with second tier Greek outfit Ethnikos Gazoros FC.

In 2012/13 he played for Iraklis 1908, notching up 7 goals in 17 appearances.

Known for his pace and natural two-footed game, he would bring plenty of experience to the attacking third of Postecoglou’s youthful line up.

Before heading overseas at 18, Konstantinidis carved out an early career in the Victoria State leagues with the likes of Fawkner, Heidelberg United, Northcote City, Richmond Eagles and Frankston Pines - scoring 36 goals in his first year as a striker. He also spent time training with the European Football Institute.

In 2011, he told au.fourfourtwo.com how he came to play in Greece after a trial in England.

“While playing a state league game for Northcote City, I got approached by a scout who later arranged for me to trial at Derby County,” he said.

“I immediately fell in love with the standards and passion for football in Europe, from that day onwards that I said football is the only way.

“How I ended up playing in Greece is with much thanks to head coach of Northcote City then John Kanesoulis.

“Both John and my brother spent time to get me in great form before passing me over to Nick Papas, a former footballer in Australia now living in Greece. We went to trial with Veria FC and a week later had signed my first professional European contract.”

In 2011 Konstantinidis was in discussions with German-based clubs and considering a move to Bundesliga 2 but said he hadn’t ruled out a return to Australia.
