BRISBANE Roar coach Ange Postecoglou isn't celebrating the premiers plate just yet but admits his side are on an 'extraordinary run' after Sunday's win made it 19 games unbeaten.
The Roar defeated second-placed Adelaide 1-0 at Hindmarsh Stadium to move 11 points clear at the top of the table, but Postecoglou wouldn't been drawn into talk of the premiers plate.
Instead the Brisbane boss said he hoped his side can continue on their undefeated run which dates all the way back to September.
"We've just got to keep it going," Postecoglou told FoxSports. "We've tried to focus on just playing well every week and not worry too much about the results and it seems to be working with this group of players.
"The last thing I say before every game is 'just play well and the result will take care of itself'.
"We're obviously going on an extraordinary run at the moment. We've had to work hard at times but I don't think there's any game where we haven't deserve to get a result.
"That's the pleasing thing, because we've played consistently well."
He added: "It's been an extraordinary run for sure. Crazy as it seems, we don't really talk about it.
"Our whole emphasis this year has been about playing good football and that's all we worry about each week - can we go out there and play as well as we possibly can in our style and get better every week.
"This league isn't designed for long unbeaten runs. A team will do three or four, five games. With the salary cap, so many games in such a short space of time it is inevitable you'll have an off day, but we haven't.
"I think during this 19-game run there hasn't been a game where I've walked away and I've thought we didn't deserve to get a result. I think in every game we have performed to a fairly consistent level."
Postecoglou labelled the win at Adelaide with a depleted side a 'massive effort'.
"We had a pretty young team out there, we lost some quality players, some experience as well," he said.
"We worked really hard and it was a nailbiter in the end, but really proud of the effort. It was a massive effort by the boys."
Now Postecoglou hopes to get even more out of his side as the run to the finals approaches.
"I hope we've had a massive dip and haven't realised it," Postecoglou said. "Our challenge to these guys is to everyday get better, why should you stop?
"There's no reason why there should be a drop-off, I don't see any reason and certainly the players attitude, the feeling amongst the group and what we challenge them with is let's just keep going and don't set a target.
"If our target was to finish top spot we might have taken our foot off the pedal a little while back, but that wasn't our target. We didn't have targets. We just every week want to play as best as we can and see where that takes us.
"From our point of view we're not sitting there going two more games and we've won this thing. What we're saying is there's six more games in the league and we want to play our best football in these six games and play our better football in the finals."
Adelaide coach Rini Coolen blamed the Reds lack of cutting edge in front of goal for the defeat and added he was excited about the arrival of a trio of imports to hopefully resolve that problem.
"I think we were the better team in the first-half," Coolen said. "We tried to do the same in the second-half but it wasn't so fresh anymore.
"Both teams didn't create a lot of chances, and for that reason I thought maybe the result was a fair result, maybe a draw."
Coolen added: "We have to do a little bit better in the final third. We will have some new players to create some more chances and try to kill the game."
