ANGE Postecoglou says he always wanted to stay with Brisbane Roar and never even explored his options elsewhere after signing a new two-year extension with the A-League premiers on Friday.
Postecoglou's future at Brisbane had been the subject of much speculation in the past week, with Victorian duo Melbourne Victory and Melbourne Heart linked with him.
But fresh from signing a new contract extension at Brisbane which keeps Postecoglou at the club until 2014, he said he always wanted to stay with the Roar and never entered discussions with other A-League clubs.
“Obviously it was a major decision for myself, professionally and personally discussing it with my wife, but I really wanted to stay here,” Postecoglou told the media on Friday.
“That's always been my over-riding feeling and there was never really any intention to do anything different.
“I think I said from day one that I wanted to build something special here and what we've done this year has laid some fantastic foundations for what I hope will be a bright future for the club. I'm delighted that's been sorted out now.”
Postecoglou continued: “On the whole Melbourne Victory thing, my intention was to stay here and I don't like to play games with people.
“Unless something unforeseen happened with our negotiations with Brisbane there was no point exploring other options.
“Melbourne Victory are a fantastic club. I think they're the benchmark in many aspects of our game. The idea is to build something similar here. That's what excites me.
“I lived in Melbourne and saw Victory grow into the club which they are and I think we can do something similar here. We have started on the field here and there's some challenges ahead.”
Postecoglou added he believes the FFA, who are in the transition of taking over ownership of the Roar, shared his vision for the club.
“The FFA have been super supportive,” he said. “They want us to continue what we've started.
“I don't think there's any cause for our supporters or our people to worry about things.”
FFA CEO Ben Buckley said he would do what was required to continue Brisbane's success.
“I'd like to assure all Brisbane Roar supporters that the FFA will continue to support the club and make sure that the investments that are required to keep it a successful club will be made under the FFA's ownership as we transition to knew ownership consortium over the next six to 12 month period,” he said.
