Brisbane officially claimed the Premiers Plate after Friday night's 1-1 draw between Melbourne Heart and second-placed Central Coast, meant the Mariners could no longer mathematically catch the runaway leaders Roar.

Postecoglou insists the premiership is no minor achievement and is now dreaming of continental glory after clinching qualifcation for the 2012 edition of the ACL.

"For me the whole Asian Champions League it's not about just playing and participating in it - I want to win it and that's what I want to prepare us for," he said.

"I think that's where the massive carrot lies for us. If we end up doing well and winning that the possibilities for this club are endless."

Postecoglou added: "Every (Australian) club has prepared to do well but, apart from Adelaide, hasn't made any in-roads.

"There's no point being one of these clubs, like many in the A-League, who have gone up one year and then fallen in the next.

"That won't do us any good, we'll have to be a top-two or three club again and that will be our first priority before the ACL."

Postecoglou also was eager to point out his club's achievement at becoming premiers deserved plenty of credit, along with their significant domestic record of going 23 games unbeaten.

"The only irritation for me is some people call it the minor premiership but I don't think there's anything minor about it," he said.

"I think it's a major achievement, we can stand alongside all the other clubs that can be called champions at the end of their year.

He added: "From my point of view we're champions. At the end of a long season, over 30 games, to be on top is what it's all about.

"I think now the unbeaten record takes more significance and the way we have played takes on more significance."
