BRISBANE Roar have given Ange Postecoglou two and a half years to prove himself as a A-League coach, with the club confirming the former Young Socceroos coach will take on the job.
Postecoglou, 44, replaces Frank Farina, who was sacked by the club earlier in the week after being charged for drink driving for the second time in three years last weekend.
The club's desire to move on quickly from the controversy of Farina's departure is evident in its speed in appointing his successor, with assistant coach Rado Vidosic not even given a week in the role to prove himself..
Postecoglou, who coached South Melbourne to successive NSL titles in the late 1990s, spent seven years as Australian youth coach, while he also spent nine months in charge of Greek side Panachaiki.
Since returning to Australia last year, he has worked as a Fox Sports football pundit, appearing as recently as Wednesday's coverage of the Socceroos Asian Cup qualifier against Oman.
His appointment is with immediate effect and he will take Roar into Saturday's game against Central Coast Mariners at Suncorp Stadium. His appointment will be confirmed at a press conference this morning.
