BRISBANE Roar coach Ange Postecoglou says he was pleased with his side’s application throughout Saturday's 2-1 win over Newcastle Jets, despite the temptation to succumb to frustration given their inability to put the game to bed in the first half.
Roar had to wait until the 82nd minute to clinch the win when Mitch Nichols coolly converted a penalty. Earlier Henrique had missed a spotkick with the scores at 1-1.
“The Jets had their moments at different times where they looked dangerous, so it was on a knife edge,” Postecoglou said.
“In the end I’m really proud of the player’s efforts. They kept pushing on and finally got that second goal."
The result ensures the race for the premiership runs until the final round of the A-League season with Brisbane facing bottom club Gold Coast, while Central Coast - who are two points ahead but with weaker goal difference - journey to Wellington.
Postecoglou added: “It was a big game for us today, to shore up second spot and we take it down to the last week (for the Premiers Plate).”
