The Socceroos start a packed June fixture list with a key Wold Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia, followed by a friendly against Brazil, then three Confederation Cup games against Germany, Chile and Cameroon.

With Aaron Mooy, Tom Rogic and Massimo Luongo not available for the previous qualifier against the UAE, the Aussies' playing list was put to the test.

But Postecoglou said the performances from the likes of Jackson Irvine and James Troisi proved there was depth in the Socceroos squad.

"That’s not by accident because we continue to dig deep and keep your eyes open and make sure we don’t get complacent," he said.

“He's (Irvine) got off to a good start to his international career but there is plenty more there and I was pleased he got a goal.

“Him and Jimmy Troisi did a really good job defensively stopping the UAE to play out and he’s always a threat in an attacking sense and even Mustafa Amini getting a run was great.

“We’ve got guys like Spiranovic, Mooy, Rogic, and there is a whole host of them who will be probably looking on saying, ‘June is a pretty big month I wouldn’t mind being part of that.’

“That is exactly the sort of environment I’ve always wanted to create and hopefully we’ve got 30 to 40 guys putting their hand up for that important month of June and we have some real decisions to make.”

Against the UAE, Irvine put on an eye-catching display and scored on his Socceroos home debut and Irvine was hopeful that his performance will give Postecoglou a selection headache.

“Getting my first goal for Australia was an incredible feeling on home soil in front of my family so I’m incredibly proud," the 24-year-old said.

“You’ve just got to take the opportunity with both hands when it comes and I’ll have to think I’ve given myself a shout.

“But it’s about the bigger picture and that is about the squad improving and developing and continuing to grow and competing at a World Cup.

“Jimmy Troisi was absolutely brilliant coming back in after a little time away from the national team.

“Then you’ve got guys like Tommy and Aaron who were missing tonight and Massimo Luongo as well, endless options to be honest.”

With three World Cup qualifiers left, Irvine was in no doubt the Socceroos would qualify for Russia 2018.

“We never thought they were in doubt to be honest,” he said.

“People can talk from the outside but everyone in the squad has been calm we know what we are trying to achieve and we are very comfortable in the way we are going about trying to do that.

“We’ve never doubted the way we are going about our business and we know that we perform like we did against UAE then we are capable of beating any team.”
