Australia coach Ange Postecoglou says the 2-2 draw away to Saudi Arabia was a “good point” but feels his side could have got all three.
The Socceroos trailed after just five minutes, before bouncing back with goals from Trent Sainsbury and Tomi Juric only for the Green Falcons to level on 79 minutes through Nasser Al Shamrani.
“They came out of the blocks pretty quickly but I thought we worked our way back into the game pretty well,” Postecoglou told Fox Sports.
“We got the goal we deserved just before half-time and looked in control.
“Once we got the second, we should’ve really maintained it.
“We lost our composure a couple of times as well. They came into it as well, they had their moments, it’s obviously a big crowd behind them and they were giving it everything.
“It’s a good point but you feel we could’ve got more out of it.”
Postecoglou hailed his side’s character for fighting back from going a goal down in Jeddah in front of a healthy home crowd.
Taisir Al Jassim opened the scoring for the Green Falcons in the fifth minute after a neat move which boosted the home support.
“It’s always hard coming away from home. That’s a real test,” Postecoglou said.
“At home when you go a goal down you’ve got things in your favour, but going a goal down away from home it is a test of character.
“I had no doubt we could get back into the game. We worked our way back into it, put them under some pressure, got a good goal form a corner and deserved our second goal.
“As I said, I just think with a little bit more composure we could’ve played out the game and got the three points.”

Australia remains top of Group B after three games, but it’s now a logjam with only goal difference separating Saudi Arabia, with Japan and UAE a point back after wins on matchday three.
Postecoglou was content with Australia’s haul of four points from away trips to Saudi Arabia and UAE.
“I’d prefer to have another win but they are tough places to come,” he said.
“I don’t think many teams will visit those places and come away with four points.
“From an overall perspective it’s still a positive step for us.
“I thought there were some really good performances tonight from some of the guys. We’ll take the point, but as I said disappointed we didn’t get three.”
Australia plays old rivals Japan on Tuesday night in Melbourne.
“It’ll be great to get back home,” Postecoglou said. “We’ve had a tough start to this qualifying series.
“We’ve played some tough teams away from home and now a tough one at home.
“There’s no reason why we shouldn’t go into it full of confidence. I’m looking forward to it.”
