At a press conference this morning, Gallop admitted that from a Socceroos' perspective, Postecoglou was only focusing on the Honduras game and not beyond that.

Gallop admitted the former Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory coach had confided that he was missing the thrill of frequent, regular club football.

“He’s made no secret he wants to coach week-in, week-out again," said Gallop.

"But his focus is on November and knuckling down for the task of qualifying for a fourth consecutive World Cup."

Postecoglou's current contract was due to expire at the end of this World Cup campaign which would conclude anyway if Australia loses next month's do or die intercontinental final play-off.

But in a bombshell last week after the win over Syria, it was claimed Ange will not travel to Russia as Australia coach regardless of whether the Socceroos qualify or not.

Postecoglou has done nothing to dampen down speculation on his future and only talk about the Honduras game while refusing to discuss any further speculation.

Today Gallop admitted the timing of the furore about the coach's future had been poor.

“It probably wasn’t ideal to have the story come out the day after such a significant win against Syria,” said the embattled CEO who is also under intense pressure from A-League club owners and FIFA about the FFA Congress.

“Importantly, I’ve spoken to Ange and he has given me the assurance he is focused on November and comfortable with the level of support from the FFA.

“I’ve spoken to Ange a number of times. A number of factors go into this kind of thing."

But Gallop added: “He’s not necessarily indicated that he’s made a decision. He’s focused on November.”
