Postecoglou, who had labelled his side cowards after their midweek 3-3 draw with Perth Glory, was full of praise for Brisbane on Saturday after a vastly improved performance.

However, Brisbane could've taken all three points after Williams decided against awarding them a penalty in the first-half when Rocky Visconte appeared to be tripped.

Brisbane's bad luck extended into the second-half when Matt Smith appeared to be tripped by Bruce Djite before falling into Sergio van Dijk which earned the Reds the penalty which led to their equaliser.

On the two incidents, Postecoglou said: “I thought that was a penalty and the second one wasn't. What do you do? Ben Williams didn't have a great day but we all have bad days. You just get on with it.

“It didn't help us achieve the result, but it didn't affect our football and that's the most important thing, we played well.”

Smith, who gave away the penalty, added: “In the first instance I thought I slipped. When I slipped I fell to ground and he bundled over the top of me. But afterwards a few of the staff and boys have said I was tripped.

“But sometimes you get them, sometimes you don't. Unfortunately todaty we didn't get it. That's football.”

Postecoglou refused to dwell on the decisions and preferred to focus on his side's performance.

“We played well, so that's important,” he said.

“I thought our team was outstanding tonight, we dominated the game, played football in their half. We had the ball most of the time, created good opportunities.

“We played well, but the result sometimes doesn't goes your way. I was pleased with the performance, but disappointed the players didn't get the reward for their efforts.”

Meanwhile, Adelaide United coach John Kosmina was delighted with his side's effort in grinding out a draw against Brisbane, who had dominated for most of the game.

''You have got to be happy,'' he said. ''They are the best side in the country … and our guys pretty much matched them.  We were smart, we showed some ticker when we needed to.”

He added: "We got caught out a few times, but there's enough there to say we've got a basis, let's have a look at what we need to do better and we'll only improve."
