Australia were humbled 4-0 by Brazil in Melbourne on Tuesday night, with few positives ahead of the Confederations Cup where they’ll play Germany, Cameroon and Chile.

Socceroos v Brazil pic special

Socceroos hit by samba smackdown

The Socceroos have recently been criticised for their style and Postecoglou’s new-look 3-4-2-1 formation which was implemented from the 1-1 away draw with Iraq in March.

Australia have collected seven points from the three 2018 World Cup qualifiers since deploying the formation, although Thursday’s 3-2 win over Saudi Arabia was unconvincing.

Postecoglou’s side were never expected to beat Brazil but were swept aside with ease by the world’s number one ranked side at the MCG.

STORY: Sainsbury sick of media 'hammering'

Socceroos defender Trent Sainsbury was outspoken about the criticism the side has received in recent weeks, labelling it a “hammering” from the media, but Postecoglou was less concerned.

“I’ve never said anything about the critics,” Postecoglou said.

“Go hard, it doesn’t affect me. I’ll take responsibility.

“As always with these things, the critics will long outlast me.

“I’m not in a mode to start telling people what to say and do. People will make their own judgements.

“The flipside of that is we do have plenty of support and we get plenty of confidence from that, it’s just not all on Twitter.”

The Socceroos are due to fly out for Russia for the Confederations Cup on Wednesday.

Australia’s first game is against Germany in Sochi on Tuesday morning AEST.
