BRISBANE Roar coach Ange Postecoglou says he'll continue to encourage his side to play their brand of football despite copping a 3-0 defeat from Melbourne Victory on Sunday.
The Roar made some elementary mistakes in defence, particularly Luke DeVere who had a poor day, which proved costly as the Victory scored three times after the break.
"We made some mistakes, but we were trying to play football and I'm not going to discourage that," Postecoglou said.
"At the end of the day we'll take some lessons from this game, but we'll continue to look to play the ball."
The Brisbane boss added: "The first goal we conceded, whilst it came from Luke's missed pass, I'll defend that to the day I die. That's the kind of football we want to play.
"Conceding that goal wasn't an issue for me. That was a mistake from a player trying to play out from the back which we want to do. I've got no issue with Luke trying to play that pass.
"I thought the second one was probably one where him and Michael needed to be a bit more desperate. But that's Luke's progression as a footballer. We've got high hopes for him."
The game was goalless at the break, but Melbourne broke through early in the second stanza and Postecoglou rued his side's response to the setback.
"We were quite pleased with the way things were going at half time," he said.
"We were pretty much in control of the game but then we conceded the first goal and lost a little bit of belief after that.
"I guess that's where we are at as a team at the moment. We're a work in progress.
"We got challenged today, you've got to give them credit they took their opportunities when we gave them to them and after that we just lost a bit of belief and shape.
"That's the challenge for us, to realise sometimes things will go against us and we've got to rise to the challenge."
Brisbane's next match is at home to Adelaide United on Saturday.
