Mooy’s sensational start to his England career has helped his team go undefeated in their opening three league games putting the Terriers on equal first on the EFL table. An eye catching debut led to the 25-year-old being selected in the EFL team of the week and he’s carried on that form with quality displays against former EPL sides Newcastle United and Aston Villa.

Nonetheless, Postecoglou, is not surprised that the former Melbourne City star has adapted to life in England’s second division and the Socceroos boss feels the midfield maestro can even take the next step.

“I’m happy he started off the season well,” he said. “I said last year I thought he was the best player in Australia. It’s not surprising that he’s doing well over there.

“It’s always hard when you go to a new club and a new environment and new country obviously, but he’s adapted well, he’s happy with the way they are playing at Huddersfield it seems to suit him. Whether he can play at a higher level - if he keeps playing like he is at the moment he will.

“Again that’s his challenge that’s what I said to him and others wherever they are playing the challenge for them is dominate where they are and move up. It’s as simple as that."

It’s not just Mooy who has taken his A-League season form to his new club, fellow Aussie abroad Craig Goodwin has also started the season on fire and Postecoglou reiterated his belief that the domestic competition is underrated.

“I’ve been saying it all along the A-League competition is a good competition,” he said. “No-one watches as much football as I do. It can be hard watching these overseas leagues the football is not that great. The A-League as a competition stands up pretty well, so if a player is doing well in the A-league there is a good chance they’ll do well in a good competition overseas.

“The fact that overseas clubs haven’t woken up to that yet - the smart ones (will) and hopefully the smart clubs here won’t let them leave for nothing.”
