J League champions Kashima Antlers won the season-opening Super Cup today after beating Emperor's Cup winners Gamba Osaka 3-0 at Tokyo National Stadium.
Shinzo Koroki opened the scoring for Kashima against the Asian Champions League winners after six minutes before Brazilian striker Marquinhos, the J.League MVP and golden boot winner last season after netting 21 goals, doubled the lead eight minutes later.
The Antlers wrapped up the win six minutes before the break as Takuya Nozawa added the third.
Next Saturday, the Antlers begin their bid for a third straight J. League crown against Urawa Reds, while Gamba travel to JEF United.
