Sydney FC confirmed in a statement on Friday that the young midfielder, whose current contract expires at the end of the 2012-13 season, will spend the next 10 days on trial with Gladbach after receiving permission from the club.

According to a Sydney Morning Herald report, Antonis is seen as a replacement for Gladbach's departing defensive midfielder Roman Neustadter.

Antonis enjoyed a breakthrough 2011-12 season where he made 17 appearances for the Sky Blues.

Gladbach, who have Australian striker Mathew Leckie on their books, are currently in the hunt for Uefa Champions League football next term as they sit fourth on the Bundesliga table.

Moenchengladbach are six points clear of fifth-placed Stuttgart and appear certain to play in the Champions League qualifiers at least.
