The Gulls trailed 0-3 after 30 minutes but a goal just before half time from Billy Quinncroft gave Trevor Morgan's side hope and double's from David Foster and Jared Love gave them the points, although a late goal from Ryan Clarke set up a tense finish, but the Gulls hung on.

Stirling Lions confirmed its credentials as one of the sides to beat this season with an upset 2-1 victory over league frontrunners Western Knights at Nash Field on Saturday afternoon.

During a physical encounter, which produced four yellow and two red cards, Stirling controlled the tempo for much of the match and withstood a furious Knights assault in the dying minutes to record arguably their finest victory of the APB State Premier League season.

Reigning champions Perth SC have regained top spot on the APB State Premier League table with a comfortable 2-0 win over Armadale at BGC Stadium - Dorrien Gardens.

The win sends Perth two points clear on top of the table from Western Knights after their loss to Stirling Lions.

Midfielder Hayden Doyle gave Perth the lead with a lovely half-volley on the edge of the 18-yard box just after half an hour of play before a Robert Puca penalty sealed victory in the second half.

Teenage striker Liam Boland scored the only goal as Swan United defeated Balcatta SC in their APB State Premier League game at Grindleford Reserve on Saturday.

It was a shock result for a Swan side who were second-bottom on the APB State Premier League table going into the game against a fourth-placed Balcatta side riding high after successive wins over Perth SC and Floreat Athena.

ECU Joondalup showed tremendous character to twice come from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with high-flying Floreat Athena at Edith Cowan University in the APB State Premier League.

The home side got off to the worst possible start when Chris Wylie scored an own goal after just three minutes.

Substitute Luke Johnson pulled ECU level on 20 minutes, only for veteran Johny Mirco to fire Floreat back in front moments later.

But Joondalup's improved effort after the break was rewarded when the impressive Phil O'Callaghan made it 2-2 midway through the second period.

Despite the wintry conditions a good crowd saw Mandurah win 3-2 in their "six point clash" with bottom team Cockburn City.

Both teams knew they had to win as the loser would be bottom after Swan's surprise win over Balcatta earlier in the day.

The match was locked at 2-2 with just 20 minutes to play with a late own goal from Cockburn's David Tarka giving Mandurah a much-needed win at home.
