Archie Thompson says he wants neither team to lose the Grand Final on Saturday despite being a Melbourne Victory legend.
Newcastle will host its first ever Grand Final when Jets host Victory on Saturday night (7.50pm AEST).
Thompson won three championships with the Big V and the former striker is currently working as a pundit.
The 39-year-old believes Victory are going into the game with better form and has backed his former club to take the toilet seat to Melbourne.
However, Thompson said he was struggling to support the Big V because it would simply be a fairy-tale if last season’s bottom placed Jets were to win on Saturday.
“That area of Newcastle is going to be absolutely buzzing and I want to wish that this game could be a draw and we could split the trophy up and both teams share it for six months,” Thompson told FourFourTwo.
“Newcastle is everyone’s second favourite team. I’ve said it over the last couple of weeks, just the way Ernie (Merrick) has turned that club around with the players he has brought in.”
“I’ve got the utmost respect for Ernie, he’s a lovely man, and a very family orientated man and a very good coach.
“He knows how to bring the best out of players. I’m so happy he’s in the position he’s in and to turn Newcastle’s mentality around.
“I’m happy for Danny (Georgievski) because I speak to him all the time, he’s a brother and then there’s Toppa (Nikolai Topor-Stanley) and Boogs (Nigel Boogard) that I know.
“It’s tough because I have friends everywhere, maybe I have to stop that because it makes it hard!”

While Thompson said he enjoyed Victory’s historic 3-2 extra-time win over Sydney FC last week, he said he felt for the Sky Blues.
“There was a piece of me that was a bit disappointed for Sydney because hopefully it doesn’t take away what they’ve done this year,” he said.
“They finished first and they’ve now missed out on the big one. The champions are the only winners people will talk about.
“Being on the fence now, you’re a bit open-minded to everything and see the ups and downs of everything.”
Archie’s prediction:
The score: Melbourne 3-2
Joe Marston Medal: Leroy George
