Thompson has a chance to force his way back into the World Cup qualifying squad when he joins a mainly Olyroos-based squad to take on Singapore on Saturday.

But he has insisted he is mainly worried about getting three points against Thai side Chonburi for Victory on Wednesday.

"I'm not thinking about the Socceroos at the moment," Thompson told Melbourne's Herald Sun yesterday.

"I'm thinking about the game on Wednesday. If I have a good performance there, then have a good performance against Singapore, then anything's possible for the game against China.

"But I'm just taking each step at a time. I'm just going to enjoy my football, which I am at the moment, and if that's enough to get me into the squad for China, then so be it."

He added: "I feel like I've been playing really well towards the end of the season and I thought I did all right last week with no rewards for the hard work."

Victory arrived in Bangkok on Sunday and began training yesterday to acclimatise to the sweaty tropical heat.

Thompson added: "We all felt quite good and felt sharp out there.

"We know they're going to be full of confidence but we're just going to go out and play the football we've been playing. We're here to get three points. Anything less, I would be disappointed."
