The 28-year-old retired from international football in September due to his mother's poor health.

However, Grondona insists that the national team would welcome Riquelme's return.

"First, Riquelme has to talk with coach Alfio Basile directly. If Riquelme wants to return the doors are open for him any time," Grondona told radio network La Red.

Grondona's admission comes a day after Villareal director Jose Manuel Llaneza confirmed that Riquelme would not be returning to Spain when his loan with Boca finishes at the end of the season.

Llaneza also revealed that Riquelme was hoping to stay with Boca permanently.
