SOCCEROOS assistant coach Graham Arnold has sat down with FourFourTwo and finally explained his and the team's performances at the Asian Cup and Olympics.
Speaking in the June issue of FourFourTwo, which is out today, Arnold fields all of our questions in a candid insight into his role within the national set-up.
Arnold tells us what happened at the 2007 Asian Cup, why the Olyroos failed in Beijing including the questions raised over his squad selection, what he thinks of Neil Kilkenny's post-tournament comments and if he ever considered resigning.
"Obviously I made mistakes, everyone makes mistakes," said Arnold of the 2007 Asian Cup. "It was an unknown, going into a tournament that Australia had never played in before, playing in conditions we had never played in before, against teams we had never played before.
"I take all the responsibility," concluded Arnold of the Beijing Olympics. "I was the coach. I'll tell you honestly, and people might not believe it, but we got the maximum out of that playing group.
"After the Olympics I though "maybe" [I should quit]. But once I had a phone call of support off Frank Lowy and Ben Buckley, they reassured me that I'd done everything I possibly could have done."
Arnold also outlines how Australian players can improve their technical ability, if he agrees with Pim's comments on the A-League, if he is better suited to life as an assistant rather than head coach and lots more.
