PIM Verbeek says Graham Arnold will have the final say on any changes during the Socceroos' first Asian Cup qualifier against Indonesia in Jarkarta on January 29.
Verbeek will be in the stands for the game, serving a carry-over ban from his time as South Korea coach at the Asian Cup 2007.
This means his assistants Henk Duut and Arnold will be in the dugout at the Gelarno Bung Karno stadium for this important first clash on the road to Qatar 2011.
But Verbeek says Arnold will have the ultimate say on any tactical or player changes in consultation with Dutchman Duut.
"Arnie and Henk together in principle but Arnie is the boss," said Verbeek today.
"Two captains on the ship is always difficult. Arnie is always taking the final decisions."
Elsewhere in the squad, Verbeek said holding midfielder Stuart Musialik had played well for his club Sydney FC last week.
"But that was his first good game I've seen him play in the last two months. So it's too late for him to be in good shape," he added.
But the national coach praised the Jets' Matt Thompson who receives his debut call up: "He can play everywhere. And he's very fit and a great professional from what I've heard.
"It's good to have an all-rounder, like Tarek."
Craig Moore will captain the team, added Verbeek, while Jade North's omission is due to him training with his new K-League club.
"It's important for him to show himself with his new club," said Verbeek. "He is also in a training camp in minus 10 degrees right now."
And Verbeek paid tribute to Sydney FC's only player in the squad, Shannon Cole: "He can have a very interesting future.
"The team didn't do that well but he was always one of those players who was performing."
