On Sunday Australia will take on Oman in a final friendly before launching the defence of their Asian Cup crown.

Oman is coached by Pim Verbeek, who replaced Arnold at the helm of the Socceroos after Australia's disappointing Asian Cup campaign in 2007.

Arnold spent two years as assistant to the Dutchman in a period that included the 2010 World Cup where the Socceroos were bundled out in the group stage.

“It will be nice to see Pim [Verbeek] again," Arnold said of the upcoming friendly.

"We shared many great memories with the Socceroos and he has done a fantastic job with Oman.

"We are expecting a tough match but also a game played in a great spirit as both nations prepare for the tournament proper.”

The match takes place at Dubai’s Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum Stadium on Sunday, 30 December 2018 at 4.00pm (11.00pm AEDT) and will be broadcast live on Fox Sports and Network TEN.

Arnold added: “With limited days to prepare for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup, Sunday’s match against Oman represents a great opportunity for us to refresh some of the principles that we worked on during our September, October, and November camps.

“Importantly, the game against Oman will serve as a great chance to provide players that haven’t played as regularly with their clubs match minutes against a strong west Asian nation."

Australia face Jordan, Palestine and Syria in the group stage. The Socceroos have started arriving in the UAE for a training camp ahead of their Cup campaign which kicks off on January 6.
