Sydney FC boss Graham Arnold has been confirmed as one of several candidates on Football Federation Australia's (FFA) final shortlist for the Socceroos coach.
As reports swirl about a number of options, with various outlets claiming different big-name European coaches as the FFA's preferred candidate, Arnold confirmed he'd been contacted about the job.
The FFA have previously said they are aiming to make an announcement on the appointment by mid-February at the latest, with CEO David Gallop heading to Europe this weekend to interview candidates.
Roberto Mancini, Jurgen Klinsmann and Bert van Marwijk have all been reported as the FFA's preferred candidates for the role over the past 48 hours.
Slaven Bilic, Marcelo Bielsa, Louis van Gaal and Michel Preud'homme have also been linked with the role.
Speaking after Sydney FC's 1-1 draw with Central Coast, Arnold confirmed FFA's approach.
"I'm very honoured and flattered to be one of the five or six candidates that they wanted to inform or speak to," Arnold said.
"The contact from FFA was all around the process and what they're doing."
It is understood, Arnold is the only Australian on the shortlist.
