Arnold brought on David Carney in the second half to wonderful effect with the substitute scoring the two decisive goals to seal a come-from-behind win.

Victory led 1-0 at the break after Mitch Austin’s 41st minute goal but could’ve been further ahead.

Besart Berisha missed a penalty while Marco Rojas fluffed a simple chance from close range.

“Melbourne Victory are a fantastic team and they were excellent tonight,” Arnold told Fox Sports.

“We rode our luck in the first half but second half I thought we came back very well.”

Arnold introduced Carney in the 59th minute, replacing marquee Filip Holosko on the right flank.

“I just thought young (Stefan) Nigro was getting tired,” Arnold said.

“Carns is very good one versus one and having a left footer on the right side coming inside might cause some trouble.

“It shows you the great team spirit we’ve got.

“I’m having to disappoint players and leave them on the bench, but they’re thinking of the team first and when Carney came on he was outstanding.”

Arnold also reflected on the first half and admitted his side were playing into Victory’s hands.

“I thought first half we played more their game,” he said.

“We were trying to go forward to early and turned over possession too quick.

“I said to the boys at half-time I want us to play our way, keeping the ball, moving them sideways and keeping them patient.

“If we do that, the opportunities will come. It was good to get the win."
