Arsene Wenger insists his Arsenal squad remain "realistic" - and declared no-one is "dreaming" of the title just yet.
The Gunners could open up a six-point lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League with victory at troubled Newcastle tomorrow night.
Wenger's emerging side have already shown their battling qualities with some impressive results this season, which have seen them go 16 games unbeaten in domestic competition and suffer just one European defeat.
Despite the manner in which they recovered to win at Aston Villa on Saturday after going behind, Wenger, ever the pragmatist, is determined to keep everyone's feet firmly on the floor.
"Maybe for dreamers, they think about the title - but we are realistic people and we know that at 14 games, there is still a long way to go," he told Arsenal TV Online.
"The championship is fantastic because it is down to consistency and you get that if you are capable to get your resources together for every single game - that is why we are not dreamers and are realistic people.
"We do, of course, think we are capable and we will grab that chance if we can get the best out of our team."
Wenger declared: "We have a fantastic opportunity to strengthen our lead in the Premier League, and we want to take this chance like we did at Aston Villa.
"We have shown that with backs to the wall, we don't give in and we fight for each other. Even if our football is not as fluid as we want it to be, we can still come out with a good result."
Wenger has something of a selection headache in midfield tomorrow - with Cesc Fabregas, Alexander Hleb, Mathieu Flamini and Abou Diaby all unavailable because of injury.
The Arsenal manager, however, can call on the experience of Brazil captain Gilberto to plug any gaps at St James' Park, with combative teenager Denilson also travelling up to Tyneside.
Even though the Gunners continue to receive the plaudits for their attitude in what was expected to be a tough season following the summer sale of star man Thierry Henry, Wenger believes one of their greatest strengths is the continued burning ambition to improve.
"I believe first of all I am lucky to have a young side, but an intelligent side and that helps them to understand in football things can change quickly," the Arsenal boss reflected.
"As well we must focus on the football we want to play and therefore we can improve a lot considering the vision we have of our game.
"The players realise there is a lot of improvement to make."
Arsenal bounced straight back from their Champions League defeat in Sevilla, which brought to an end a 28-game unbeaten run, with a determined display in the midlands.
Another positive result in the north-east from their second tough away Premier League game of three would heap more pressure on under-fire Magpies boss Sam Allardyce.
Wenger, though, remains fully focused on the job in hand of getting his side on the road to sustained success.
"I think about the prospect always of another run," said the Arsenal manager.
"What is important to me is that the team pushes, digs deep to improve their performances.
"In life and in football I believe you focus step by step and then see at the end of the season how far you have come."
