He’s Australian football’s wunderkind; the golden boy that many rest their hopes on approaching Russia and Arzani knows he’s not just here to make up the numbers.

“Obviously, first and foremost really excited to be here. Really happy that all the boys have been welcoming so far. The hotel we’re staying in is absolutely massive, there’s a lot of golf buggies to get around,” he smiled.

“It hasn’t really sunk in yet. I just want to get the first session out of the way to see where I’m at.

“For me I’ve just got to prove that I’m invaluable to the team, and that will come with just doing my thing.

“I watched a lot of Tim Cahill, (Harry) Kewell, (Mark) Bresciano – they were the golden generation of Australian football. I base my game around them.

Chosen in Bert van Marwijk’s 26-man squad ahead of the likes of Jamie Maclaren and Bailey Wright, the 19-year-old realises he’s only a couple of weeks away from accomplishing his dream.

“Coming into camp was a bit frightening because I don’t know anyone, but Timmy’s a good friend of mine,” Arzani continued.

“As such a young player you’re starting over again, so I’ve got to prove my worth more than anyone else.”

When asked about what a call-up would mean to him, Arzani shook his head in remote disbelief.

“It’d be a dream come true. To be playing for the Socceroos, to think that could be happening, is amazing.”
