“I thought we played a very good game and I thought we probably deserved a little bit more out of the game than what we got,” coach Aurelio Vidmar said after the match.

“We know we were up against a superior opponent but that proved to me that we can match it with a side like Gamba.”

Osaka go on to a dream clash against Manchester United after dismissing the Reds 1-0 despite Adelaide's spirited battle to level the score.

Vidmar added: “I’m very proud of the way they performed.

"I think it a fantastic improvement from the ACL Final and it is giving us a benchmark of where we should be heading and where football in Australia should be heading.

“Now we just look forward to Thursday’s game and once again it’s another game where we want to do our very best and win.”

Adelaide United will take on Egyptian side Al Ahly in a play off for fifth and sixth spot in the tournament. The match will be played on Thursday December 18 at Yokohama International Stadium, kick-Off 6.00pm ACDT.
