The 29-year-old, who has been club-less for almost a year, arrived at Bloomfield Road on Thursday.

He came on as a 60-minute substitute left-back in a recent 1-1 draw against Morecambe.

The former Sydney FC star was named in the line-up to take on Kendal Town overnight as new manager Paul Ince puts up to 15 triallists through their paces.

Ince told Blackpool’s Gazette: “I want to give the trial players a chance to play in a game before making a decision on them.

“I don’t like calling them trialists as some of them have played at a very high level. But I’ll have a final look at them this week before making a decision, then I can sit back and look at what I’ve got here.”

In January, Socceroos coach Holger Osieck conceded he had no idea what his left-back was up to these days after the player vanished off the radar.

Carney made several attempts to reboot his career but stints in the Spanish second division with AD Alcorcon and Uzbekistan outfit Bunyodkor both ended with his release.

He continually rejected talk of a return to the A-League and was most recently linked with Persepolis FC in the Iran Pro League in November last year, although nothing came of a reported trial with the club.

His most recent club was Bunyodkor, who he signed with in February 2012, before being considered surplus to requirements.

During an acrimonious split with the club he was accused by coach, Mirjalol Qosimov, of saving his best for the national team.

Blackpool finished 15th last season and Ince is looking to sign as many as 12 new players before the 2013/14 campaign kicks off against Doncaster on August 3.

Carney last played for the Seasiders during the 2010/11 campaign while they were still in the Premier League.

He made 11 appearances for the club but left after Blackpool were relegated to the Championship.
