Paul Jewell is determined that all the misery that accompanied the Rams woeful Premier League season be swept away and forgotten.

He told the Derby Evening Telegraph: "I probably came in last year trying to help them by being nice, a little bit walking on eggshells, which is unlike me, in a way.

“That won't happen again. There are no excuses. We've got to be disciplined, we've got to be organised, we've got to be fit, we've got to have desire. Those are the four things, the minimum requirements.

“If they're frightened of hard work, I'd rather they stay at home."

Jewell has also revealed that everything is being done to erase the bad taste of last season.

He said: "It will be little things, like they'll all have new squad numbers.
“They'll be certain standards that I want to stick to. I want them to actually care for each other.

“I felt last season there was a lack of togetherness. That happens when teams are losing. There was a lack of fight."
