The Australian is one of 10 players released by the English League One club which narrowly failed to make the play-offs this year.

Sydney-born Reid, 28, who played for Wollongong Wolves before heading to England in 2002 to initially join Bradford City saw his 2006-7 season largely ruined by a knee injury and had limited starts for the Seagulls in 2007-8.

Reid, who made just three starts and four substitute appearances last season, is part of a massive Gulls’ cull by boss Dean Wilkins.

The manager told Albion’s website: “It’s never easy making these type of decisions, particularly when it comes to players who have served the club so well for a number of years. But we have given each individual decision very careful consideration.

“It is the nature of the game that to be competitive we have to make these sort of tough decisions.

“It may sound like hollow words, but I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of the players for their professionalism and service to the club and wish them well for the future.”
