Spanish based Aussie keeper Jose Bello-Amigo is back in Australia during the European off-season and is about to undertake a rather unusual vacation. While most players head to beaches and niteclubs to chill out, Bello-Amigo and a few friends have flown to Darwin to begin an 18-day trek into the outback around Northern Territory
“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” says Bello-Amigo, 30, the former Racing Ferrol glovesman currently with Spanish second division club Poli Ejido.
“I love coming back to Australia and it seemed like a great idea to come out here and explore the outback."
Bello-Amigo has been plying his gloves trade in Spain for six years after he was plucked from the obscurity of lower tier NSW club Canterbury Marrickville.
"When I get back, I’ll tell you all about my outback adventure and my career in Spain," says the keeper.
Bello-Amigo, who played in the same junior teams as Harry Kewell and Brett Emerton, is one of the least known of our Aussies abroad. However, the position of third and second keeper ahead of the next World Cup campaign isn’t cut and dried. It's still possible he could be given a chance to show what he can do.
If he doesn’t get lost in the outback, Bello-Amigo will chat with au.fourfourtwo.com when he returns to Sydney on July 12 ahead of pre-season with his club which begins the following week.
