AZ Alkmaar took the lead in the 12th minute following some generous defending from the Den Haag defenders. Brett Holman found himself in plenty of space at the back post and slammed the ball home to the delight of AZ fans.

ADO Den Haag’s defence was at fault again following AZ’s second goal in the 64th minute. A mix up in the back between Horvath and Ahmed Ammi allowed Beerens to unleash a shot, his attempt on goal was parried into the path of Adam Maher who tucked away the rebound.

The result was put beyond doubt in the 83rd minute courtesy of a delightful one-two between Jozy Altidore and Adam Maher. Following some intricate passing, Altidore rounded the keeper to calmly slot the ball home.

Elsewhere in the Eredivisie, Michael Zullo was an injury time substitute in FC Utrecht’s 10-goal thriller against Ajax. The 20,000 fans at the Stadion Galgenwaard got their money’s worth as Utrecht ended their three game losing streak with a 6-4 victory at home to Frank de Boer’s men. Tommy Oar was an unused substitute while Adam Sarota did not feature in the match day squad.

In the English Premier League, Socceroo keeper Mark Schwarzer and his Fulham teammates suffered a 3-1 defeat against high-flying Tottenham at Craven Cottage. Goals from Gareth Bale, Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe ensured Martin Jol would not enjoy a victory over his former side.

Over in the English Championship, Leeds United made sure their 5-0 drubbing last week against Blackpool was only a distant memory as they overcame a determined Leicester City 1-0. Patrick Kisnorbo retained his place in the starting XI with Darren O’Dea still suffering from that injury he sustained a fortnight a go. Adam Clayton’s wonder strike 20 minutes from time was enough to send Leeds home with all three points.

At the Madejski Stadium, Adam Federici kept a clean sheet in Reading’s 1-0 win at home to Birmingham City. Noel Hunt’s 75th minute strike was enough for Reading to end Birmingham’s nine-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

In the Turkish Super Lig, Socceroo James Troisi found the back of the net but it proved to be merely a consolation in Kayserispor’s 2-1 loss away to Trabzonspor. The home side had taken a two-goal lead thanks to a brace from Burak Yilmaz and it proved to be the difference and James Troisi’s 88th minute goal was too little too late.

Kayserispor has now suffered three straight defeats and sit two points clear of the drop zone.

Kerem Bulut was absent from the Mlada Boleslav side that defeated Dukla Praha 3-1 at the Mestsky Stadion. Boleslav now sit third on the Czech Liga table.

Jade North completed a rare 90 minutes in FC Tokyo’s 2-1 triumph over Shonan Bellmare at the Hiratsuka Stadium. A double from Brazilian Roberto Cesar was enough for Tokyo to claim all three points and maintain their lead at the summit of J2-League.

Meanwhile, Mark Milligan put in a full shift as JEF United played out a 1-1 draw against eleventh placed Oita Trinita. The result leaves United winless in their last five games.
