AUSSIES ABROAD: Socceroo Luke Wilkshire’s bid to play in the UEFA Champions League next season suffered a setback as Dinamo Moscow dropped out of the top two following a 1-1 draw with city-rivals Spartak Moscow.
Dinamo scored just three minutes in to the match, but they sat back on their lead and handed the initiative to Spartak, who equalised early in the second half.
With two matches remaining, Dinamo are in third position on the table, two points away from a Champions League spot.
In Italy’s Serie B, Carl Valeri played a full match and scored as Sassuolo defeated nine-man Padova 2-0. The Socceroo midfielder made a well-timed run to head home Gianluca Sansone’s corner in the 62nd minute.
Sassuolo are currently in third position on the Serie B table, one point away from an automatic promotion spot.
In the English Premier League, Mark Schwarzer had a few nervous moments in goal, but still managed to keep a clean sheet as Fulham defeated Liverpool 1-0.
Tim Cahill returned to the starting line-up and played a full match for Everton in the 1-1 draw with Stoke City.
In the Eredivisie, Jason Davidson put in a full shift as Heracles Almelo were trounced 4-1 by Feyenoord, while Brett Holman started and played 87 minutes as AZ Alkmaar drew 1-1 with NEC.
Michael Zullo and Tommy Oar were unused substitutes as FC Utrecht conceded a late goal to draw 2-2 with Vitesse.
James Holland put in a full shift as Austria Wien were defeated 2-0 by Ried in the semi-final of the Austria Cup.
In the Scottish Premier League, Ryan McGowan played a full match for Hearts in the 1-0 loss to Motherwell, while Aaron Mooy was absent for St Mirren’s 2-0 victory over Kilmarnock.
In the Asian Champions League, Sasa Ognenovski made his first start since returning from injury in Seongnam’s 1-1 draw with Nagoya Grampus.
Mark Bresciano played a full match and picked up a yellow card as 10-man Al Nasr were defeated 3-0 by Sepahan.
Al Nasr have managed just one win in five ACL matches and have no chance of qualifying for the next round.
Lucas Neill put in a full shift and made an assist as Al Jazira secured top spot in their group with a 4-1 thrashing of Nasaf.
