Our Aussies took on the League Cup this week with some mixed results. Aaron Mooy made his debut for Brighton in a 2-1 win over Bristol City as Mat Ryan got a weeks rest. 

Jackson Irvine's Hull City were knocked out 5-4 on penalties by Preston North End with the Socceroo rested for the match. Young Aussie Tyrese Francois made his first team debut for Fulham as an 80th minute substitute as his side were knocked out 1-0 by Southampton. 

Ryan Edwards got on the scoresheet for Burton Albion as they knocked out Morecambe 4-0. Massimo Luongo played a full 90 minutes for Sheffield Wednesday as they defeated Rotherham United with a 96th minute winner. 



In the English Premier League Mat Ryan and Aaron Mooy had their progress halted losing 4-0 away to Manchester City. Ryan played the full match as the last line of defence while Mooy was an unused sub.

In the English Championship Massimo Luongo welcomed his former club QPR as he played 25 minutes off the bench for Sheffield Wednesday as they lost 2-1. Jackson Irvine played a full 90 minutes as Hull City drew 1-1 with Millwall with the Socceroo being switched into a more defensive role in midfield. 

Adam Federici got another start for Stoke City in goal as his side lost 2-1 to Birmingham City. Jarred Gillett refereed Charlton Athletic's 2-0 win over Reading FC. 

In the Scottish Premiership Lyndon Dykes scored the winner and his second in two weeks as Livingston defeated St. Mirren 2-1.



Oliver Bozanic was absent from Hearts' squad as they drew 2-2 with Hamilton Academical. 

In League One action Mark Milligan's Southend United fell to another defeat at home. It was their sixth league loss in a row after Rochdale sent three unanswered goals past them. Harry Souttar played a full match as Fleetwood Town lost 2-0 to Lincoln City. 

Ryan Edwards was the man in form, netting again in the league as Burton Albion defeated Bristol Rovers 2-0. 

In League Two Jordan Lyden played another 90 minutes for Swindon Town as they picked up a 3-1 win over Morecambe. Jack Iredale has nailed down his left back spot at Carlisle playing a full game again in his sides 1-0 win over Scunthorpe United. 

In the English youth leagues Manchester City starlet Alexander Robertson made his first appearance for the U18's side in their 1-0 win over Middlesborugh playing half an hour off the bench. 

Peter Gwargis played 25 minutes for Brighton U23 as they lost 5-2 to Blackburn Rovers U23. Tyrese Francois played 35 minutes off the bench for Fulham U23 as they lost 2-1 to Newcastle United U23. Caleb Watts played 37 minutes in the second half for Southampton U18's 1-0 win over Arsenal U18. 

EUROPE 

In Germany Mathew Leckie, who was left on the bench last week, managed 14 minutes off the bench for Hertha Berlin in a 3-0 loss to FC Schalke. Brandon Borrello started and played an hour for SC Freiburg as they went down 2-1 at home to FC Köln. 

John Iredale played a full match for Wolfsburg II in a 2-1 win over VfB Lübeck. Joshua Laws was on the bench for Fortuna Dusseldorf II as they lost 4-2 to Borussia Dortmund II. Jacob Italiano played his first game for Borussia Mönchengladbach II as a 70th minute sub while Christian Theoharous was left on the bench in a 3-2 win over Bonner SC. 


In Austria James Holland, who was left out of the Socceroos squad, played 90 minutes in a home loss for LASK Linz, losing 1-0 to Wolfsberg. Jimmy Jeggo played a full game as Austria Wien lost 3-1 at home in the Vienna derby to Rapid Wien. 

In Turkey Aziz Behich played 90 minutes as Basaksehir snatched a 2-1 win away from home against Genclerbiligi. 

In Denmark Mustafa Amini played a full match, Zach Duncan was a 76th minute substitute and Alex Gersbach was an unused sub as AGF won 1-0 against Esbjerg. Awer Mabil played an hour for FC Midtjylland in a narrow 1-0 win over Brondby to maintain their one point lead on top of the table. 

In the Netherlands Ajdin Hrustic played 90 minutes for FC Groningen as they lost 2-1 to Heracles Almelo. 

In Serbia Milos Degenek played a full match in Red Star Belgrade's 2-1 league win over Vojvodina. That match came a few days after Degenek played 90 minutes as Red Star qualified for the Champions League. 

In Israel Trent Sainsbury made his debut in the 70th minute and Nikita Rukavytsya played a full game as Maccabi Haifa drew 0-0 with Hapoel Haifa.

Daniel Bouman was an unused sub for SC Cambuur in their 3-2 win over Den Bosch for whom Ryan and Declan Lambert were on the bench. Luca Da Silva played 90 minutes for Willem II U21 as they were humbled 4-0 by VVV-Venlo U21. 

In Croatia Anthony Kalik was an unused sub for Hajduk Split in their 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb. Fran Karacic played a full match for NK Lokomotiv Zagreb as they thrashed Slaven Belupo 6-1. 

In Cyprus Apostolos Giannou began AEK Larnaca's first division season with 90 minutes and a 2-0 win. The Aussie striker won a penalty for his side which was converted. 

ASIA 

It was a no-show in Korea last week for our Asian Aussies Abroad. Adam Taggart (Suwon Bluewings), Rashid Mahazi (Incheon United), Jason Davidson (Ulsan Hyundai) and Bernie Ibini (Jeonbuk Hyundai) were all absent from their squads. Luckily all teams won their matches except Mahazi and Davidson's sides playing out a 3-3 draw. 

In Japan Ange Postecoglou got back to winning ways as his Yokohama F Marinos defeated Gamba Osaka 3-1 at home. 

Mitchell Langerak's Nagoya Grampus went down 2-1 to FC Tokyo with Langerak coming off in the 66th minute due to a foot injury. 
 


In Saudi Arabia Brad Jones played a full match in goal and kept a clean sheet as Al Nassr defeated Al-Fateh 1-0. Craig Goodwin played 90 minutes for Al-Wehda in a 2-1 loss to Abha. 

In Hong Kong Charles Lokolingoy scored on his debut for Sun Pegasus and Michael Glassock played 72 minutes in a 4-2 loss to Warriors on the opening day of the season. Jared Lum played half an hour for Kitchee as they began the season with a 5-0 win over Happy Valley. 

In Uzbekistan Steve Lustica played an hour for Qizilqim as they lost 2-0 away from home to Surkhon. 

NORTH AMERICA AND AFRICA 

In South Africa Kearyn Baccus scored his first goal for Kaizer Chiefs which turned out to be the winner in a 2-1 away win over Cape Town City. 


In the MLS Andy Rose played 90 minutes in an unfamiliar centre-back role as Vancouver Whitecaps lost 3-1 at home to New York City FC. 

Antonee Burke-Gliroy and Jesse Daley played full matches as Seattle Sounders II beat San Antonio 5-1.
