AUSSIES ABROAD: Socceroo Brett Holman continued his stellar year with a goal in AZ Alkmaar's 3-0 victory over Willem II in Holland's Eredivisie over the weekend.
Holman had an interesting afternoon but his goal with a low drilled 20-yard shot on 55 minutes was the highlight.
Early on, the Australian spurned a close-range chance to put AZ ahead when he met Stijn Schaars' corner but put his shot wide, before Jonathas opened the scoring on 11 minutes from the spot.
Minutes later, Holman did brilliantly on the right-side of midfield to cut inside and set up Eric Falkenburg with a neat pass, but he saw his shot saved.
Maarten Martens made it 2-0 on 35 minutes, before Holman added the third after the break.
The Socceroo found the back of the net with a nice strike after Stijn Schaars' square ball.
Ten minutes later, Holman skilfully got past his man down the right-wing before squaring the ball for Falkenburg who skied his shot over the bar.
And late on Holman advanced unopposed from the halfway line onto the edge of the box before setting up Johann Berg Gudmundsson who shot wide but it did not matter as it ended 3-0.
