AUSSIES ABROAD: Dario Vidosic won a rare start for FC Nurnberg over the weekend but it was one to forget as he was run ragged in a 3-1 loss to Kaiserslautern in the Bundesliga.
Vidosic, who started at full-back, was handed his first starting appearance for Nurnberg this season due to the absences of defensive trio Juri Judt, Per Nilsson and Javier Pinola.
But Vidosic, making his appearance overall for Nurnberg since September, looked uncomfortable and uncertain in defence as Kaiserslautern raced to a 3-0 lead after just over half an hour.
And Vidosic was replaced after just 39 minutes, as Nurnberg boss Dieter Hecking looked to remedy his defensive problems.
The Australian international was made to look average for Kaiserslautern's second, when Stiven Rivic embarrassed him with his skill on the left-side of the box before crossing for Ivo Ilicevic who made it 2-0 after 12 minutes.
Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, Mitch Langerak was an unused sub as leaders Borussia Dortmund continued their fine form with a 2-1 win at SC Freiburg on Saturday.
In Germany's 2.Bundesliga, Nikita Rukavytsya played a full game as Hertha Berlin were beaten 2-0 by VfL Osnabruck on Friday evening.
In England's Premier League, Aussie youngster Chris Herd was given another run for Aston Villa, after making his debut last weekend against Manchester United.
Herd was an 80th minute substitute for Villa who lost 2-0 at Blackburn Rovers on Sunday.
For Rovers, Aussie pair Brett Emerton (hamstring) and Vince Grella (Achilles) were absent.
Elsewhere, Mark Schwarzer made some fine saves but ultimately had too much to do as Fulham were trounced 4-1 by Manchester City on Sunday.
The Cottagers are worryingly down in 17th place with just two wins this term.
Meanwhile, David Carney was a 90th minute substitute as Blackpool defeated Wolverhampton 2-1 on Saturday.
In Italy's Serie A, Mark Bresciano was left on the bench as Lazio drew 1-1 at Parma on Sunday. Lazio remain second, but are now three points behind leaders AC Milan.
In Italy's Serie B, Socceroo Carl Valeri played a full game as struggling Sassuolo drew 0-0 with Triestina on Saturday. Valeri went close to a winner on 69 minutes when his shot from the edge of the box forced a fine save from the Triestina keeper.
Elsewhere in Serie B, Adrian Madaschi put in a full shift as Portogruaro slumped to a 4-1 home defeat by Siena on Saturday.
In Holland's Eredivisie, Brett Holman started and played 80 minutes as AZ Alkmaar maintained their fine recent form with a 2-1 win at FC Twente on Saturday.
Elsewhere in the Eredivisie, Tommy Oar and Adam Sarota were both unused substitutes as FC Utrecht cruised past NEC Nijmegen 4-0 on Sunday.
In Turkey's Super Lig, Harry Kewell was back in action for Galatasaray, playing a full game along with Lucas Neill, as they drew 0-0 Kayserispor on Sunday.
Elsewhere in the Super Lig, Mile Jedinak started but was replaced the break as Genclerbirligi drew 1-1 at Kasimpasa on Saturday.
In Russia's Premier League, Socceroo Luke Wilkshire was sent off, after two bookings, as Dinamo Moscow lost 1-0 at Krylya Sovetov on Saturday in the penultimate round of the season.
In Switzerland's Schweizer Pokal, Scott Chipperfield scored as FC Basel progressed on penalties after a 1-1 draw with Servette on Saturday.
Chipperfield, wearing the captain's armband, put Basel ahead on 18 minutes from the penalty spot.
The Aussie was replaced on 62 minutes, before Basel won out 5-4 on penalties to move into the quarter finals.
In Greece's Super League, Nathan Burns put in a full shift as AEK Athens were defeated 2-1 at Kavala on Sunday.
In Denmark's Superliga, Socceroo Nathan Coe played a full game as SonderjyskE were thrashed 3-0 at home by Horsens on Sunday.

In Korea's K-League, Sasa Ognenovski capped a fine week with a goal as Seongnam Ilhwa progressed into the final four of the playoffs after a 3-1 win over Ulsan Hyundai on Sunday.
Ognenovski scored from the spot on 27 minutes, before Seongnam ran away with the win in the second-half.
The Socceroos defender, who made his international debut against Egypt in midweek, was given an early shower on 85 minutes after a big week.
