AUSSIES ABROAD: Socceroos duo Harry Kewell and Lucas Neill played major roles in helping Galatasaray claim a much-needed 1-0 win over Konyaspor in Turkey's Super Lig overnight.
The Australian pair were involved in the winner which came through Anil Dilaver on 81 minutes.
Earlier, Kewell inexplicably missed a first-half chance to put Gala ahead after Anil Dilaver ran free before cutting back for the Socceroo who missed the ball with a goal begging.
Moments later Kewell was lucky not to be sent off following a scuffle with Hakan Aslantas, where the Aussie pushed the Konyaspor defender but escaped without even a card.
In the second-half, Kewell almost put Cimbom ahead when he won the ball on the right wing before cutting inside off the flank and unleashing a wicked shot which was well saved by Konyaspor keeper Gokhan Tokgoz on 62 minutes.
On 76 minutes, Kewell had another chance after Anil Dilaver's right-wing cross, but the Socceroo pushed his right-footed shot narrowly over the bar from close-range.
But Galatasaray would eventually make the breakthrough, Kewell flicking on for Neill who had got forward before he cut back for Hakan Balta who layed off to Anil Dilaver and he sidefooted home the winner.
A melee developed late on in the contest, after pushing and shoving between Neill and Konyaspor's Mahamadou Kere. Kere and Gala's Lorik Cana would be sent off, but in the end it didn't affect the result.
The result moves Galatasaray - who have had a season to forget so far - up to ninth, some 19 points behind leaders Trabzonspor at the halfway mark ahead of the winter break.
Elsewhere overnight in Turkey, Ersan Gulum played a full game in defence as Besiktas drew 1-1 with Gaziantepspor.
In Italy's Serie A, Mark Bresciano was a 90th-minute substitute as Lazio defeated Udinese 3-2 to move into third and within three points of leaders AC Milan.
In Greece's Super League, Nathan Burns did not play as AEK Athens slumped to a 2-0 defeat Iraklis.
Elsewhere games were postponed in the Netherlands and England meaning there was no further action for more of our Aussies abroad.
