Lowry, who joined the Blades during the week on loan from Premier League club Aston Villa for the remainder of the season, received praise from United boss Micky Adams after the game.

The 21-year-old Perth-born defender debuted along with new signing Joe Mattock in the back four and Adams was delighted with their efforts.

"They have had very little chance to train with us but there is a bit of quality there and I am looking forward to working with them on the training ground," Adams said.

"When you consider the amount of pressure they were under it is remarkable to keep a clean sheet.

"There are a lot mercenaries out there looking to join clubs, but these youngsters really want to play first-team football. There is work to be done but they will get better."

For the Sky Blues, young Aussie keeper Dan Ireland was an unused substitute.

Elsewhere in England's second tier, Australian shot-stopper Adam Federici kept a clean sheet as Reading underlined their promotion credentials with a 3-0 win at Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

In Germany's 2.Bundesliga, Dario Vidosic made his debut for Arminia Bielefeld, playing a full game as the bottom-club drew 1-1 with FSV Frankfurt on Sunday.

Vidosic came close to clinching the win for the struggling Arminia when his late volley brushed the post.

The Australian, who opted to miss the Asian Cup to focus on club duties, was played in an attacking role in a 4-3-3 formation and by all reports produced an encouraging display.

Elsewhere in 2.Bundesliga, Nikita Rukavytsya started and played 80 minutes as Hertha BSC won 3-1 at Rot-Weiss Oberhausen on Monday.

In Germany's Bundesliga, Mitchell Langerak was an unused substitute as Borussia Dortmund returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win at Bayer Leverkusen on Friday. Dortmund are now 12 points clear.

In Italy's Serie A, Mark Bresciano was an unused substitute as third-placed Lazio kept in touch with leaders AC Milan with a 1-0 home win over Sampdoria on Sunday.

In Italy's Serie B, Adrian Madaschi was a 65th-minute substitute as Portogruaro claimed a 1-1 draw at Cittadella on Saturday.

In Greece's Super League, VIS product Apostolos Giannou was a 67th-minute substitute as Kavala lost 4-2 at Panathinaikos on Sunday.

Returning to England, in the Premier League, Chris Herd was not in the Aston Villa squad which drew 1-1 at rivals Birmingham City on Sunday, despite signing a new deal keeping him at Villa Park until 2014 this week.

In League One, James Wesolowski was a 56th-minute substitute as Peterborough lost 3-1 at leaders Brighton on Saturday.

In League Two, Shane Cansdell-Sherriff played a full game as Shrewsbury drew 1-1 at Barnet, while Jamie Young put in a full shift as Aldershot drew 1-1 at Bury on Saturday.
