AUSSIES ABROAD: Socceroo Tim Cahill returned to the Everton starting side but wasted their best chance as the Toffees lost 2-0 overnight at Bolton in the Premier League.
Cahill, who has been eased back into club action for Everton following his return from the 2011 Asian Cup, played a full game in the contest at Reebok Stadium.
Bolton had gone ahead through the Australian's namesake Gary Cahill, before the Socceroo had a great chance on 17 minutes.
Leighton Baines's well-weighted left-wing ball found Cahill unmarked inside the box but the Aussie pushed his right-footed shot past the post.
Everton, who were below their best, were made to pay in the second-half when Daniel Sturridge sealed the win for Bolton.
Elsewhere in the Premier League this weekend, David Carney played his third consecutive full game at the back for Blackpool and put in an energetic display as the Tangerines snapped their losing streak with a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa on Saturday.
