Kewell, making his first start since April 4, scored Galatasaray's opening goal in the win over Genclerbirligi who had Socceroo Mile Jedinak sent off late on.

Genclerbirligi had gone ahead on 27 minutes through Emre Aygun before Kewell attempted an audacious lob which landed on the roof of the net.

But the Socceroo did level the scores on 43 minutes, when he rose well to nod Colin Kazim-Richards' well-weighted cross beyond Gencler goalkeeper Ozkan Karabulut at his far post.

Juan Emanuel Culio had put Galatasaray ahead early in the second half, before Aygun equalised for the hosts, only for Jedinak to see red in the 84th minute.

Jedinak, who had been booked in the first half for dissent, was sent off for a second bookable offence when he arrived late in a challenge on Culio.

And Galatasaray made their numerical advantage count when Kewell sent Emre Colak free down the left flank and his low cross squeezed its way to Kazim for the winner on 86 minutes.
