AUSSIES ABROAD: Fringe Socceroo Bruce Djite made it two goals in as many games and almost proved the hero as Jiangsu Sainty lost 2-1 at leaders Guangzhou in China's Super League.
Djite came off the bench on 71 minutes for fellow Aussie Alex Wilkinson, before netting on 75 minutes with an emphatic spotkick finish into the top-right corner.
The young striker, on loan at Jiangsu from Adelaide United, won the penalty himself after being hauled down inside the box by Guangzhou's Paulao.
And Djite, who scored the winner in last weekend's 1-0 win over Chengdu, almost proved to be the hero when his left-foot volley, after some fine control, was deflected over the bar late on.
Djite, who hasn't played for the Socceroos since starting against Slovenia in August last year, now has three goals since moving to China.
In Japan's J.League, Socceroo Alex Brosque was delighted to score his third goal in four games, claiming that's why he's in Japan, as Shimizu S-Pulse defeated Vegalta Sendai 1-0 on Sunday.
Brosque produced a neat left-foot finish from Kosuke Ota's left-wing cross for the game's decisive goal after 81 minutes.
"I am very happy because that is why I am here. I am here to try and help the team,” Brosque told The Japan Times Online.
“Today was all about the team. The defence was excellent, the goalkeeper and up front we punished them."
"I think it just shows how far we have come as a team. Sendai is a very good team and all credit to them because I think they played well.”
Brosque played a full game in the contest, while Australian teammate Eddy Bosnar was absent due to suspension.
Elsewhere, Joshua Kennedy provided an assist but champions Nagoya Grampus were held to a 1-1 draw by Matt Spiranovic's struggling Urawa Red Diamonds on Saturday.
Kennedy teed up Ryota Isomura on the edge of the box for Nagoya's goal on 45 minutes, but Urawa levelled late from the penalty spot.
Spiranovic returned from suspension to play a full game for Urawa, while Kennedy also put in a full shift.
In Japan's J2.League, Socceroo Mark Milligan played a full game in defence as JEF United drew their top-of-the-table clash with Tochigi 2-2 on Sunday.
Elsewhere, Jade North's FC Tokyo moved up into third spot after a 3-2 win at Mito HollyHock on Saturday, however the Aussie wasn't in their matchday squad.
In Russia's Premier League, Socceroo Luke Wilkshire played a full game at full-back as Dinamo Moscow recorded an impressive 4-1 victory over Lokomotiv Moscow on Sunday. Dinamo are now third in Russia's top flight.
In Korea's K-League, ex-Adelaide United defender Robbie Cornthwaite put in a full shift as Chunnam Dragons moved up to fourth spot with a 1-0 win over Gangwon FC on Sunday.
Elsewhere, Socceroo Sasa Ognenovski played a full game as his struggling Asian champions Seongnam Ilhwa slumped to a 2-1 loss at Daegu FC on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Olyroos defender Luke DeVere put in a full shift as Gyeongnam FC lost 3-2 to second-placed Pohang Steelers, while Iain Fyfe was an unused sub as Busan I'Park won 2-0 over Ulsan Hyundai.
Returning to China's Super League, Joel Griffiths put in a full shift as second-placed Beijing Guoan slipped five points behind the leaders following a third consecutive draw, 1-1 with Tianjin Teda.
Meanwhile, Adam Kwasnik put in a full shift as Chengdu Blades drew 1-1 at Adam Griffiths' Hangzhou Greentown, Dino Djulbic played a full game as Shaanxi Chanba won 3-2 at struggling Nanchang Bayi, while Dean Heffernan put in a full shift as Liaoning Whowin lost 1-0 at home to Shandong Luneng.
