ASIAN Football Confederation chiefs have blamed Australia for the post-match brawl at the end of the Young Matildas' match against China earlier this week.
A temptestuous match ended in ugly scenes after Aussie Jessica Seaman was dismissed in the dying seconds of the match.
As the players made their way off the field, an Aussie player went down on the ground while surrounded by Chinese players.
The Aussie's team-mates rushed in to support her and the bad-tempered scuffle broke out between players. Fans at the match then also became involved, pelting the Aussies with water bottles who allegedly then threw the bottles back at them.
But tonight the AFC blamed the Australians for starting the trouble, and fined them a total of $7,000 for their part in the incident.
Seaman was personally fined US$3000 and suspended for four matches for violating the the AFC code for her dismissal for violent conduct which was the catalyst for the brawl.
Australia were also fined a further US$4000 after being found guilty of ..."initiating a scuffle at the end of the match and also of throwing bottles at the spectators," said an AFC statement.
It added: "The team head coach was also found guilty of misbehaviour during the post-match press conference."
The China team were fined a total of $5000 - $3000 for not controlling the spectators and $2000 for their involvement in the scuffle.
